Tu Sushi 305
Tu Sushi 305 is the business my husband, chef Angel Mendoza, and I built together. We started from home in 2020, after years of experiences, attempts and lessons, and over time we opened our own location in Hialeah.
Caribbean fusion sushi, made with who we are
It all began in Venezuela, with Seikami Sushi Delivery and some platters that were a huge hit. In 2017 we tried to bring that idea to Miami and it didn't work. In February 2020, shortly before the pandemic changed life for so many families, a customer called us to place an order, and that call brought our excitement back.
Word of mouth, together with our consistency on social media, helped us get known. There were setbacks, like the space in Virginia Gardens where we lost $15,000, but we kept going until we opened our place in Hialeah.

- Each of us has a role
At Tu Sushi 305, Angel mainly makes the sushi. I work in the hot kitchen, on prep and on everything related to the administrative side, and I help him with the sushi when he needs me. We both handle social media. Having clear responsibilities helps us coordinate better and avoid confusion in our day-to-day work.
- Organization and financial responsibilities
At Tu Sushi 305, Angel and I share the administrative responsibilities. He oversees the overall financial management of the business, while I take care of paying bills, payroll and other administrative tasks needed to keep our operation organized.
We each have our own responsibilities, but we make the important decisions together.
- Finding balance between business and family
When you work together, it's easy for business conversations to keep going even after the workday ends. That's why Angel and I have learned how important it is to set boundaries and make time for our family and our relationship.
We don't always manage it, because running a business also comes with responsibilities that go beyond a schedule. But we try to find balance, listen to each other and remember that, besides being business partners, we're a couple and a family.
Our business is part of our life, but we don't want it to become our whole life.
